Hammer (Tok Sen) massage is something you can rarely experience even in Thailand. It is ancient way of healing from Lana Kingdom. This was the name of Thailand northern region before it united with Siam. Purpose of this healing process is releasing muscle tension and pain.

Public researches done by Chiang Mai University, Faculty of Medicine claims that this ancient remedy release aches direct to the point and with great power.  Tok Sen in therapy that uses wooden  wedge and hammer. Hammering will stimulate the problem areas that are causing aches and pain. Stimulating our body will cause it to speed up self-healing and reset muscles in the affected area to get back in place. That will immediately relief the symptoms and problems.

In recent years hammer (Tok Sen) massage is getting more popular. Nowadays it can be found in some hospitals, health care and spa centers .

I found this lady working in the street by total accident. Her massage place is at the end of Sunday market in the Old city of Chiang Mai, Thailand.

My experience with Hammer (Tok Sen) massage

“Whole procedure hurts a bit, however in a different way than Thai massage. It has sharp, immediate pain, which is not a surprise since the lady is hitting me with a hammer and spike. 🙂 Initially, I needed a few minutes to get used to it, and then soon it started feeling good.. Whole pain of therapy lasted only few minutes after it is finished and I felt really good and relaxed after it. Definitely an interesting experience. Therapy lasted around 15 minutes and costed 200 baht (5€).
